Umatilla County Fire District #1 is seeking an experienced, progressive, and motivated leader to serve as our next Fire Marshal (Division Chief). This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a growing Community Risk Reduction program in one of the fastest-growing regions of Eastern Oregon.
As the Fire Marshal, you will lead the District's prevention, code enforcement, plans review, fire investigation, and public education programs while serving as the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for the District. The position plays a critical role in shaping community safety, supporting responsible growth, and helping build the premier public safety organization in Eastern Oregon. The position leads the District's Community Risk Reduction Program and serves as the designated AHJ responsible for enforcement and interpretation of the Oregon Fire Code and adopted standards.

Position Highlights

The Fire Marshal will:
- Lead the District's Community Risk Reduction and Fire Prevention Division.
- Conduct and oversee fire and life safety inspections.
- Review development and construction plans for fire code compliance.
- Coordinate with building officials, developers, contractors, and partner agencies.
- Supervise fire investigations and investigation personnel.
- Develop public education and risk reduction programs.
- Participate in strategic planning, growth management, ISO initiatives, and community preparedness efforts.
- Serve as a key member of the District executive leadership team.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates should possess:
- Minimum 10 years of career fire service experience.
- Four years of experience at the company officer level or equivalent fire prevention experience.
- Associate Degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection Technology, or related field.
- EMT Basic or ability to obtain within one year of appointment.
- Oregon driver's license or ability to obtain.
- Fire inspection, investigation, and code enforcement certifications consistent with Fire Marshal responsibilities. See job description for specific requirements
- Ability to obtain required Oregon Fire Marshal recognition requirements within one year.
